Installing and Using SigmaPro Everest
Everest is "the" tool for anyone using SigmaPro allowing you to quickly view and update tasks.  Designed as a Windows application, it's extremely fast compared to any web application since it requires less data and less calls to your web server as well as your back-end database server.  With SigmaPro Everest, you can work with off-line SigmaPro Project files or go online and work with data in real-time.

Why would you need Everest when you can use SigmaEx?  SigmaEx is designed for project managers and corporate executives.  Everest is designed specifically for the teams responsible for handling the tasks, allowing them to search, view, update, comment, download and upload files quickly and easily.  It's the same as using the core SigmaPro DotNetNuke module except that it's a Windows application and it's extremely fast.

New Feature Just Added: Convert projects between SigmaPro and Microsoft Project! See below for details.

How to install Everest:  In order to use Everest, you must have SigmaPro installed on your DotNetNuke web site and setup to fit your needs.  Once you have SigmaPro installed, complete the following steps:

Install the SigmaPro Web Service Module:
  1. Install the SigmaPro Web Service DotNetNuke Module from the Module Definitions page in the Host tab of DotNetNuke
  2. Create a new page on your web site and add the SigmaPro Web Service.  You may secure this page to prevent users from browsing it.
  3. Click the "SigmaPro Web Service URL" link displayed in the SigmaPro Web Service module.  A new page will open with details on the web service, copy the URL in the Address Bar of your browser and save it, you will need it for the Everest Settings.
  4. Click "Set Security Key" in the SigmaPro Web Service module.
  5. In the Key Code field, enter a value only you will know.  It's like a password so it can be anything you want and should be complex.
  6. Save the Key Code you entered as well as the Portal ID and Module ID displayed, you will need it for the Everest Settings.

Install Everest:

  1. Download the latest release of Everest from the My Downloads page in the Members tab on www.OnyakTech.com.
  2. Unzip the contents of the Everest install package to your computer and double-click the Setup.exe to start the install.
  3. After Everest is installed, open Everest by clicking on the SigmaPro Everest icon on your desktop or from your Programs folder in the Windows Start menu.
  4. The first time you start Everest, you will be prompted to entered settings.  Details on these settings and where to get them are displayed on the Everest Settings form and here.  You can edit the settings by clicking on the main Everest menu (click the Everest image at the top left of the application) and clicking on Server Settings.
  5. The SigmaPro Web Service, Web Service Module ID, Portal ID and Security Key are visible in the SigmaPro Web Service module you installed on your DotNetNuke web site.  The SigmaPro Web Service is the Web Service URL visible in the Address Bar of your browser after clicking on the SigmaPro Web Service URL link visible on the SigmaPro Web Service Module.  The Security Key is the "password" you created and entered into the Key Code field of the SigmaPro Web Service module settings.  The Portal ID and Module ID displayed in the Web Service module should be entered into the Web Service Module ID and Portal ID fields on this screen.
  6. The SigmaPro Module ID is the Module ID of the core SigmaPro module instance on your site.  This is displayed by clicking on Edit SigmaPro from the core SigmaPro module menu.  If you have multiple instances of SigmaPro, use the instance of SigmaPro you would like Everest to use the settings from.  When Everest updates tasks, this instance of SigmaPro is used for it's settings you entered to control what the From address is on emails, who is emailed (Assigned, Owner, Teams, etc) if email is enabled and etc.
  7. In the Your User ID field, enter your DotNetNuke Profile User ID or the User ID you would like all updates to appear to have been made by.  You can get this value by clicking on your profile in DotNetNuke.
  8. Click Update when you are done.  Everest must be restarted for the new settings to take place, once you click Update your settings will be saved and Everest will be restarted for you.

Using Everest: When you start Everest, you will see a menu displaying two choices.  You can either open a SigmaPro Project file you have downloaded from the core SigmaPro module Project Details screen or you can go online and work with current project data.   This menu is displayed in the image below.

You can also open a SigmaPro Project file or work with Online Data by selecting "Open Project File" or "Open Web Project" from the main menu of Everest.  If you have opened SigmaPro project files in the past, you will see a list of the project files you have opened displayed on the right of the main Everest menu.  Clicking on one of the recently listed project files will open that file and display it's contents.

Go Online to work with Current Data: After you click this option, Everest will connect to your DotNetNuke web site to obtain the current Project List and load your profile settings.  (Most actions in Everest related to window sizes, project selections, active tabs, etc are stored in your profile.  This allows Everest to load in the same configuration of your last use so that you don't have to setup your options every time you use Everest.)

Using the Everest Side Bar: The side-bar (displayed in the image on the left) controls the tasks you are working with.  The last project you were working with as well as the selected side-bar tab will be displayed and loaded when you start Everest.  To change the tab, click on the Tab Header to expand it's selection.  The image to the left is displayed the "Search By Date" tab expanded.

Select Project Tab: Expand this tab to view the list of current projects on your web server. Clicking one of the projects listed will set that project as the current active project and the current tasks displayed will change using your last search options.  For example, if your last search was for the last 100 updated tasks, Everest will load the last 100 updated tasks in the project you have selected.  Any changes to your search options will be executed against the project you have selected and the project name will now be displayed in the title bar at the top of the window.

Search By Date:  To search by date, make your selection to the "Search From Date" and the "Search To Date" and click the Search button.  Everest will then load tasks created within the selected date range for the current project.  The number of days between your date selection is also saved in your profile making it almost unnecessary to change the date selection in the future.  Once your date span has been set, Everest will pre-set the selected dates based on the dates of your last selection.  For example, if you select a date range from August 25 to August 30 on August 29th, the next time you open Everest the date selection will automatically be set to the To date to the current day plus one day and the From date to negative five days from the To date, making your new preset date selection August 26 to August 31 when you open Everest on August 30th.

Search By User:  To display all tasks where the Requester is a specific user in the current project, select the "Search By User" tab and enter the User Name you want to search for into the User Name textbox and click the Search button.  This search option is not limited by date range or by returned record count.

Search By ID:  To open a specific task by Task ID, click on the Search By ID tab.  Enter the Task ID into the Task ID field and click the Search button.  The task will appear in the task list and you can work with it by double-clicking it.

Latest Changes:  The Latest Changes tab allows you to view a list of the most recently changed tasks or tasks with new comments in the active project.  This selection is not controlled by date range, but it is limited by the number of records you wish to return.  This prevents you from loading an entire project when you only want to view the last 20 updated tasks.  (Any updates to a the same task within a short period of time will be removed from the results).

Working with the Active Tasks List (Click image on the right)Once you have the project selected and the tasks loaded, you can now work with your tasks.

To open a task, double-click the task in the task list or navigate to the task with the arrow keys on your keyboard and press ENTER.

To delete a task,  select the task you want to delete in the task list and press the Delete key on your keyboard.  Once a task is deleted, it still exists on your server and may be restored or permanently deleted from the Recycle Bin in the "Full Menu" of the core SigmaPro DotNetNuke module.
