Working With Teams

SigmaPro uses Teams to govern security, escalation, process metrics and provide granular cost and time tracking. All cost metrics in SigmaPro use the hours tracked against a task along with the team member’s current rate.  Each project must have at least one team assigned to it.

To quickly setup a Team (you can always modify the team and its members later)…

  1. Click on Teams icon in the SigmaPro Toolbar at the top of the module.
  2. Click “Create New Team” link
  3. Enter values for the Team Name and Vision statement.
  4. Select a DNN Role. Teams are generated by importing users from a DNN Role. You can delete members later and/or synchronize the team as needed.
  5. Click “Sync Team with Roles and Edit Members” link. At this time, SigmaPro will import the users in the DNN Role into the Team.
  6. The next screen will show all of the Team Members. You can continue and modify each team member or move on and create a new project.

A single team can be used for multiple projects.  If you want to add an individual to a team, click the View Team link in the main Team details screen, at the bottom of the next screen you can select the user from the list of registered users and add the user to the current team.

Team Member Cost Per Hour
If you want to manage the cost of a project, you should set the hourly wage for each team member.  The Dashboard module in SigmaPro uses this information to calculate the total cost of a project by calculating total hours times the hourly wage of each team member.

Team Member Skills
While viewing an individual team member, you can set them as a project lead, you can set their skills, and strength of the skills.  This information is not required and provided for your own use.  This information could prove to be key information when used in a NukeAlert email campaign that sends out weekly project reports to project managers or directors.

To Assign Teams To Projects
Open the Projects List in SigmaPro and then click on your project listed to open the details of the project.  With the project details displayed, scroll down until you see the "Project Teams" section. In the All Teams list you will see the team you just created. Select that Team and click the --> arrow to move that team over to the current projects Selected Teams list. This will assign the team to the project and now all users listed in that team will be able to be assigned to new tickets and receive email notifications.

Teams and Hidden Projects
When a project is marked as hidden (by checking the Is Hidden option in the project details screen), only team members can view the project.

Only Team Members can be set as the Owner or Assigned of project items in SigmaPro.

Additional Information about Projects and Teams
Teams are used to provide multiple levels of support for Help Desks (Escalation). They are also used in projects to divide workload. While working with tickets, you can assign the team (or escalate the ticket).  Teams are also mandatory in order to create a ticket.  All members of the Teams assigned to the project are loaded into the Assigned and Owner drop-down lists on the Task Detail screen.

If you enable Advanced Security (from the module menu option Edit SigmaPro-->Security), only those in the specified Project Manager roles will be able to create tickets and will be restricted from modifying the tickets.  The Project Members will be allowed to edit the tickets but restricted from creating tickets.  This configuration supports project teams where tasks are 100% delegated and controlled by the project manager.  Optionally, you can set the Comments of tickets to not be Read-Only during this setup from the Security settings in Edit SigmaPro.
